FSA and European Commission hold Japan-EU High Level Meeting on Financial Issues
On April 22, 2009, the Financial Services Agency (FSA) and the European Commission held the Japan-EU High Level Meeting on Financial Issues in Brussels.
Background
The High Level Meeting on Financial Issues usually occurs once a year, alternating between Brussels and Tokyo. The meeting consists of two sessions - macro-economic developments and financial services - and since 1985, has brought together the Director General for Economic and Financial Affairs and Director General for Internal Market and Services of the European Commission as well as the Vice Minister of Finance for International Affairs and the Deputy Commissioner for International Affairs of the Financial Services Agency. The discussions focus on developments in the financial services policy in the EU and Japan, including the regulatory environment for banking and securities, insurance and asset management services. Accounting and auditing standards are also an important part of the agenda. Exceptionally the High Level Meeting sessions were organised separately this year. The session on macro-economics will be held in Brussels on 18 May 2009.
