(Excerpt)
(Tuesday, August 9, 2011, from 6:53 p.m. to 6:54 p.m.)
[Questions & Answers]
- Q.
-
Could you comment on the cause of the worldwide stock plunge and measures that may be taken by the government?
- A.
-
Stock prices are plunging around the world, as you mentioned. Although Japanese stock prices also dropped temporarily, the drop was apparently less steep than in the United States. However this is a worldwide stock plunge. As the market is moved by various factors, I would like to refrain from commenting on specific market movements. All the same, the Financial Services Agency (FSA) will closely monitor the market trends while maintaining cooperation with the Ministry of Finance and other relevant ministries and agencies, and the Bank of Japan.
