Participation in the Sustainable Insurance Forum
The Financial Services Agency (FSA) expressed its intent to join the Sustainable Insurance Forum (SIF) as a member at its meeting held on May 16, 2018, and it was welcomed.
The SIF is a forum convened by the UN Environment Programme in December 2016, and becomes a network of insurance supervisors to strengthen their understanding of and responses to sustainability challenges and opportunities, including climate change, for the business of insurance. Since 2017, it has worked closely with the International Association of Insurance Supervisors (IAIS).
Participation in the SIF enables the FSA to contribute to the global supervisory community with constructive suggestions on sustainability issues for the business of insurance based on the experience in Japan and to use the accumulated wealth of international discussions to respond to its own domestic challenges.
