Provisional Translation

Press Conference by SUZUKI Shunichi, Minister of Finance and Minister of State for Financial Services

(Excerpt)

(Friday, January 7, 2022, 11:38 am to 11:45 am)

[Questions and answers:]

Q.

My question is about Mizuho Bank. On December 30, Mizuho Bank had another incident affecting money transfers. There was media coverage that the FSA issued an order to request the bank to submit a report. Could you explain what action the FSA will take for the latest incident at the end of the year?

A.

It is regrettable that a bank, which constitutes crucial social infrastructure, repeatedly has system failures and caused hindrance to the provision of financial services. Mizuho Bank should make the utmost efforts to ensure meticulous customer services and thoroughly implement recurrence prevention measures with a strong sense of crisis, based on the business improvement order issued thereto last November. The FSA will closely follow their efforts.
