The FSA updated the current status of measures taken by the FSA, local finance bureaus, and financial institutions in response to the Great East Japan Earthquake.
April 30, 2014: Number of information provided regarding unauthorized use of bank accountsopen new window

The FSA provides information regarding unauthorized use of bank accounts to relevant financial institutions and law enforcement authorities. The FSA and local finance bureaus provided 316 cases of information in total during the period extended between January 1 and March 31, 2014. Since September 2003, the aggregate number of cases reached 41,323.

The FSA published the number of debtors and the amount of debts of which the contractual repayment has been suspended following the Great East Japan Earthquake, based on hearings with financial institutions in the three prefectures that were most  heavily affected by the earthquake (Iwate, Miyagi, and Fukushima).

The FSA’s Counseling Office for Financial Services Users responds to inquiries and comments from financial services users. In the first quarter of 2014 (between January 1 and March 31, 2014), the counseling office received 9,878 inquiries and comments, a decrease from the 10,225 cases in the previous quarter (between October 1 and December 31, 2013).
April 28, 2014: Financial measures against the outbreak of Porcine Epidemic Diarrhea (PED)open new window

The FSA issued the statement “Financial Measures against the Outbreak of PED” to relevant financial institutions. The statement requests financial institutions to deal appropriately with applications for new loans or changes of loan terms from customers affected by the PED.

The FSA published a draft revision of the EDINET Taxonomy following the amendment of the Ordinance on Disclosure of Corporate Information. The amendment established a Special Provision that enables issuers to be regarded as having submitted a Securities Registration Statement if a prospectus is submitted with a Securities Report.
April 28, 2014: Disciplinary action against a certified public accountantopen new window

The FSA suspended the business of a certified public accountant for 2 months from May 1 to June 30, 2014. The reason for the suspension was that the certified public accountant was disciplined pursuant to the Certified Public Tax Accountant Act and was therefore deemed to have committed a discreditable act as prohibited by Article 26 of the Certified Public Accountants Act.
April 28, 2014: The FSA to hold a consultation session and a seminar to improve financial literacyopen new window

From June 12 to 14, 2014, the FSA will hold a free-of-charge consultation session on household budget management and life planning, as well as a seminar aimed at the improvement of financial literacy.
