May 10, 2023 | New web portal for the list of business operators engaging in specially permitted business for foreign investors, etc. <Summary> Following the first case of acceptance (by the FSA) of a notification filed by an entity to be registered as a business operator engaging in specially permitted business for foreign investors, etc., the FSA launched a new web portal for the list of business operators engaging in specially permitted business for foreign investors, etc., thereby making it available for public perusal. The first entity registered as a business operator engaging in specially permitted business for foreign investors, etc. is on the said list. In conjunction with the launch of the new web portal, a list item titled, "Business Operators Engaging in Specially Permitted Business for Foreign Investors, etc." was added to the "List of Licensed (Registered) Financial Institutions." May 11, 2023 | The FSA's initiatives for the reduction of food loss as well as food donation through the effective use of a portion of the government's emergency food reserves <Summary> From the perspective of reducing food loss and supporting people in need, the FSA has been engaging in food donation to food bank (hunger-relief) organizations and other outreach groups since August 2021, by making effective use of a portion of food reserves (mainly non-perishable foods, such as canned goods) that are originally kept for disaster-relief/emergency by the government. The FSA has called for applications for its ninth offering of a portion of its emergency food reserves subsequent to the previous offering made in January 2023. May 8, 2023 | Requests for financial measures to deal with disasters caused by the earthquake in the Noto region of Ishikawa Prefecture [in 2023] (The Hokuriku Local Finance Bureau) <Summary> On May 6, 2023, the Hokuriku Local Finance Bureau alongside the Bank of Japan’s Kanazawa Branch issued a statement titled "Financial Measures to Deal with Disasters Caused by the Earthquake in the Noto region of Ishikawa Prefecture [in 2023]" to the relevant financial institutions. The statement requests financial institutions in Ishikawa prefecture to appropriately deal with victims of the disaster considering their circumstances, such as by making the repayment of deposits flexible.
