On December 5, 2017, the FSA and the Consumer Affairs Agency jointly held the 10th Consultation Meeting relating to the Multiple Debt Problem and Consumer Finance. The consultation meeting was held to follow up the status on lenders and borrowers as part of the measures based on the “Program to Remedy the Multiple Debt Problem.”
December 1, 2017: New one-stop access for depositors to know about dormant deposits* under the “Act on Utilization of Funds Related to Dormant Deposits to Promote Public Interest Activities by the Private Sector”open new window

Prior to the enforcement of the “Act on Utilization of Funds Related to Dormant Deposits to Promote Public Interest Activities by the Private Sector” scheduled in January 2018, the FSA newly added a subpage to its website to provide one-stop access for depositors to know about dormant deposits under the Act. The subpage provides information including an FAQ for depositors and relevant documents and materials pertaining to the Act.

* Deposits, etc. for which ten years have elapsed since the most recent account activity date, etc. of those deposits, etc. are deemed as “dormant deposits.”

The FSA updated the “Cabinet Office Order on Arrangement of the FSA-Related Cabinet Office Orders” in accordance with the enforcement of the “Act for Partial Revision of the Real Estate Specified Joint Enterprise Act.” The updates mainly pertain to renumbering of articles to reflect the revisions of the “Real Estate Specified Joint Enterprise Act” which is under joint jurisdiction of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism and the FSA. The updates were enforced on December 1, 2017.
November 27, 2017: Activities of the FSA’s Counseling Office for Financial Services Users between July 1 and September 30, 2017open new window
< Summary>
The FSA’s Counseling Office for Financial Services Users offers a counseling service to respond to inquiries and comments from financial services users. Between July 1 and September 30, 2017, the counseling office received 8,173 inquiries and comments, remaining roughly flat from 8,289 cases in the previous quarter (between April 1 and June 30, 2017).
